A Wireless Revolution:
'If we want to avert an impending calamity and a state of things which may transform this globe into an inferno, we should push the development of flying machines and wireless transmission of energy without an instant's delay and with all the power and resources of the nation."-Nikola Tesla, The Electrical Experimenter (1919)
Tesla was a pioneer in wireless energy transmission. His inventions and improvements in the area of wireless, including radio, have built the modern technological world. Companies like WiTricity today aim to supply free energy as Tesla dreamed, and the American public has had good exposure to wireless, especially in the form of internet access.
"Traffic on wireless networks has been doubling annually and around 2020, data consumption will be thirty times more."-Saurabh Patel, Malhar Chauhan, and Kinjal Kapadiya, International Journal of Computer Applications (2012) |
"Today several firms—including Fulton Innovation, eCoupled, WiTricity and Powercast—are pursuing various technologies that deliver electrical power without wires (though over shorter distances than Tesla had in mind). WiTricity has demonstrated the ability to send enough energy across a room to run a flat-screen television using its approach, called 'resonant magnetic coupling'. This is different from Tesla's approach, but the firm's founders have acknowledged his pioneering work."
-The Economist (2010)
"There are...exceptional reasons why wireless should be given the fullest freedom of development. In the first place it offers prospects immeasurably greater and more vital to betterment of human life than any other invention or discovery in the history of man. Then again, it must be understood that this wonderful art has been, in its entirety, evolved here and can be called "American" with more right and propriety than the telephone, the incandescent lamp or the aeroplane."
-Nikola Tesla, The Electrical Experimenter (1919)
